 Through the cracks of history

Caliph Haroon al-Rashid sent a watch as a gift to King Charlemagne of France.

This clock was 4 metres tall, made of pure brass, and ran on water.
On the hour, 1 ball would come out of the clock, 2 balls on 2 hours, and 3 balls on 3 hours. Thus, one ball was added every hour.
With the release of the ball, a horse rider would come out behind the ball with a beautiful melodious sound. He would circle around the clock and enter the back. When 12 o'clock struck, twelve horse riders would go out and return.
Seeing these movements of the clock, King Charlemagne was very worried. He called the priests and astrologers to the palace.
Everyone came to the clock at night, thinking that Satan must have slept at that time, so when they opened the clock, they found nothing but the instruments, but the clock was damaged.
Because of shame, there was no craftsman in France to repair the watch. He could not even ask Haroon al-Rashid to send a Muslim craftsman.* When science was monopolised by Muslims, Europe considered science as magic...
