How did Hazrat Yunus (AS) survive in the belly of a fish?
Dr. Imrooz John Wilson, Fellow at Quiz College, Oxford, has written an article in the Theological Review about the survival of Prophet Yunus (AS) in the belly of a fish.
He writes that in 1890, a ship was whaling near the Falklands. One of his hunters, James, fell into the sea and was swallowed by a whale. After a great effort, that fish was caught two days later. When his stomach was choked, the hunter came out alive. However, his body turned white due to the internal heat of the fish. After two weeks of treatment, he became completely healthy.
In 1958, the ship named "Starfish" was fishing in the Falklands when its sailor, named "Barclay," fell into the sea and was swallowed by a whale. Incidentally, that fish was caught. The entire staff started cutting him with axes. On the second day too, this work was going on when the dead fish felt a movement in its stomach. His stomach was cut open and his partner, Barclay, came out covered in oil and fat. Barclay regained consciousness two weeks later and reported his baptism.
When this news about Barclay was published in newspapers and journals, the world of knowledge and science was shocked. Many people took interviews. Mr. M. D. Powell, editor of a famous scientific magazine, wrote after the research that "After the revelation of this fact, I admit that the incident described in the heavenly books about Hazrat Yunus (AS) is true letter by letter."
In 1992, a 49-year-old fisherman from Australia, Turansay Kayes, miraculously survived after spending eight hours in the belly of a whale. He was fishing on a small trawler in the Indian Ocean when a big sea wave washed away his trawler. He kept beating his hands and feet in the sea for several hours.
At the same time, he felt as if many sharks were moving towards him. Soon he realised that he was actually under the attack of a huge whale that was moving towards him with its mouth open. The whale crammed it into its mouth, but it was lucky that it remained in its jaws. The whale kept trying to swallow him, but he resisted equally, due to the fact that he was getting oxygen and he was alive. After eight hours of this struggle, while he was semi-unconscious, he found himself on a beach in Australia.
In fact, the fish had swallowed him because of his inability to swallow, so his life was saved.
All of them had said that there was darkness in the belly of the fish and there was no difficulty in breathing. In the Qur'an, Allah says about Hazrat Yunus (AS). Finally, he cried out in the darkness, "There is no God but You. Glory be to You. Surely I have committed a sin."
May Allah perfect our faith and belief. Amen
